A Study for Testing Validity of Korean Pain Measurement Tool


Abstract
The main purpose of this study was to clarify the validity of the Korean Measurement Tool composed of Pain terms when it was used to undergone thoracic surgery.
The subjects of this study were 34 patient from the thoracic surgery (Open heart Surgery and Lung Surgery) in H. University Hospital.
The study was collected during the period from Nov. 4,1986 to Mar. 1, 1987.
Korean Pain Measurement Tool and Simple Discriptive Pain Scale were used to measure the pain.
The outcomes were as follows:
1. A positive correlation did exist between Simple Rating Scale and Korean Pain Measurement Tool (r=0.3905-0.4215).
2. Neither means differences of Pain Measured by Simple Rating Scale and Korean Pain Measurement Tool between a group having Open Heart Surgery and a group having Lung Surgery.
3. Korean terms "Kuk Kuk Susinda" "Dang gin Da" "yokgiginage Apda" used in patients having Open Heart Surgery and "Dang gin Da" "Manzi myun Apda" "Guduk Ha Da" used in patients having Lung Surgery.
4. The 7 subclass are Inflammatory repeated pain, Simple stimulating, Traction pressure, Dull pain, Cavity pain, Digestion related Pain, Suffering related pain.
Thus it can be concluded that Korean Pain Measurement Tool when partialy used supplemented can be an effective tool of pain measurement for the pain in Korea.
